Monday Evening Beginners Sewing Course starting 21st September
Learn to Sew from Scratch — 9-Week Beginners Course
Whether you've never touched a sewing machine or just want to build proper foundations, this hands-on 9-week course will take you from complete beginner to confident sewist — one skill at a time.
We start at the very beginning. You'll get fully comfortable with your sewing machine — how to thread it up, wind bobbins, set your tension correctly, choose the right needles, and understand grain line. No guessing, no frustration — just clear, practical knowledge that sets you up for everything that follows.
Then I build your skills step by step. You'll learn a range of seams and techniques used in real garment making, including:
A variety of seam types
Different zip insertions
Knife, box, and inverted pleats — both top-stitched and invisibly finished
pockets
The course finishes with a project of your choice. You'll select your own pattern, cut it out, and work through the full construction process with guidance every step of the way. By the end, you'll have a finished piece you made yourself — and the skills to keep going.
This course is perfect for you if:
You're a complete beginner with little or no experience
You want to learn properly, not just muddle through
You'd love to make your own clothes, home furnishings, or gifts
What You'll Need
Please bring your sewing machine, an extension lead, thread, and fabric scissors to each class. Once we begin working on your chosen project, you'll also need to bring the sewing pattern and the fabric required to make it. Don't worry if you're unsure which pattern to choose or what materials you'll need—I will help you select a suitable pattern and advise you on the fabric and everything else you'll need when we get to that stage of the course.
Location- The Weller centre 110 Amersham road RG4 5NA
Time 7pm-8.40pm
Dates
The dates of the course will be :- 21st September, 28th September, 5th October, 12th October, 19th October, 9th November, 16th November, 23rd November, 30th November.
please note there is no sessions on the 26th October and 2nd November
