What you’ll Learn

We begin with the fundamentals, ensuring you feel confident using your sewing machine before moving on to more advanced techniques.

During the course you'll learn how to:

• Thread and set up your sewing machine correctly

• Wind and insert a bobbin

• Change sewing machine needles

• Adjust thread tension for different fabrics

• Understand fabric grain lines and fabric preparation

• Troubleshoot common sewing machine problems

• Sew accurately and confidently

As your skills develop, you'll progress to techniques used in dressmaking and garment construction, including:

• Straight and curved seams

• French seams and professional seam finishes

• Square corners and accurate stitching

• Standard and invisible zip insertion

• Knife, box and inverted pleats

• Top-stitched and concealed pleats

• Side seam, curved and patch pockets

Finally, you'll put everything you've learned into practice by creating your own sewing project. You'll choose a suitable sewing pattern, cut out your fabric, and construct your project with step-by-step guidance throughout the process.

By the end of the course, you'll leave with a finished project and the confidence to continue sewing independently.

• Your chosen sewing pattern

• Suitable fabric and haberdashery
