Learn to Sew — 9-Week Tuesday evening Beginners Course
Whether you've always wanted to learn to sew, have a machine gathering dust at home, or simply want to build proper foundations, my friendly 9-week Tuesday evening Beginners Course is the perfect way to get out, enjoy some time for yourself, and learn something new. You'll go from complete beginner to confident sewist — one skill at a time.
I start at the very beginning. You'll get fully comfortable with your sewing machine — how to thread it up, wind bobbins, set your tension correctly, choose the right needles, and understand grain line. No guessing, no frustration — just clear, practical knowledge that sets you up for everything that follows.
Then I build your skills step by step, covering a range of seams and techniques used in real garment making, including a variety of seam types, different zip insertions, knife, box, and inverted pleats both top-stitched and invisibly finished, and pockets.
The course finishes with a project of your choice. You'll select your own pattern, cut it out, and work through the full construction process with guidance every step of the way. By the end you'll have a finished piece you made yourself — and the skills to keep going.
This course is perfect for you if you're a complete beginner with little or no experience, you want to learn properly rather than just muddle through, or you'd love to make your own clothes, home furnishings, or gifts. As well as our Beginners Course we also offer an Intermediate Course, or if you can already sew you're welcome to simply join us to work on your own projects with expert guidance on hand.
Places are limited — book your spot today!
What You'll Need
Please bring your sewing machine, an extension lead, thread, and fabric scissors to each class. Once we begin working on your chosen project, you'll also need to bring the sewing pattern and the fabric required to make it. Don't worry if you're unsure which pattern to choose or what materials you'll need—I will help you select a suitable pattern and advise you on the fabric and everything else you'll need when we get to that stage of the course.
